Warminster Highbury Youth Football Club . Under 10’s ‘C’ Team. v Bradford Eagles.
Played at Bradford On Avon RFC ‘s ground. KO 10.15.
The team was Mathew, Ronan, Kieran, Zack, Sam, ,Ellis & Stelvio. Sam was in goal.
Once again it was a cold windy morning with a touch of rain in the air, typical football weather.
The game started off with both sides effectively warming up, each side making little spurts of energy trying the other side out and in fact finding their own strengths before committing to the game in earnest. This went on for about 10 minutes then a strong attack by Bradford left us off guard and they scored the first goal of the game. Bradford 1 Highbury 0. The game then went on as so many of them do playing first to the left and then to the right, players from both teams showing their worth but not excelling for individual mention. Then came what I thought was the best football of the game, a kick from our keeper Sam went to Matthew, who passed it on to Stelvio who centered it to Ronan who scored. Bradford 1-Highbury 1. This was the half time score.
The second half seamed to be a copy of the first half, first one side then the other then a goal by Bradford after a messy skirmish inside the goal area. 2-1. The final 10 minutes of play was rather slowed down by 3 stoppages, twice Kieran was struck down by being hit very powerfully by the ball and once Zack was. Each was accidental but it gave Bradford time to regroup and capitalise from each stop. They somehow managed to score 3 more goals between injury’s and eventually won the game after 7 minutes extra time Bradford 5 Highbury 1. We lacked strong forward players, and if it wasn’t for a good defence I feel we would have lost by more. Better luck next time.
