Highbury under 10’s played against Bradford Falcons in the West Wilts Cup and ran out comfortable 7 – 0 winners. This was a good performance with Highbury playing quality football start to finish, however they may be punished by better teams for their profligacy in front of goal.
Highbury started positively with Luke Woods terrorising his fullback and delivering a perfect cross for Joe Hardy who turned and shot in one movement but the ball flew just over the bar. Highbury scored soon after, Harry Guerri-Fear won a tackle on the half way line and passed the ball onto Adam Clark, Clark looked up and delivered a cross across the face of goal where Joe Hardy slid in and got the faintest touch to steer inside the far post. Highbury continued to pour forward and Chay Andrews dribbled down the wing before centring for Hardy to control and finish neatly for his and Highbury’s second.
Hardy almost completed his hat-trick with an audacious piece of skill, the ball was collected neatly by Liam Gibbens in goal who seeing Hardy free launched a long kick, Hardy controlled the ball on his chest and with a defender on his back Hardy flicked the ball over his head and span away from his marker and through on goal, sadly his precise shot slipped just the wrong side of the post. Louis Cole scored Highbury’s third after a superb corner from Lyndon Parmley which was whipped in with pace and power only for Cole to leap highest and head past a stranded home keeper for 3 – 0.
Highbury extended their lead to 4 – 0 just before half time when Harry Guerri-Fear won another tackle, passed the ball onto Joe Hardy who picked out Luke Woods on the edge of the box, Woods steadied himself and shot powerfully into the far corner giving the home keeper no chance.
The second half started in similar vein with Highbury creating chances at will, sadly despite some excellent football with neat intricate passing Highbury missed a glut of chances which could, and should have double the final score line. Luke Wood scored Highbury’s fifth with a fine solo run down the right wing, Wood bamboozled his defender before smashing the ball into the top corner from a narrow angle to make it 5 – 0. Chay Andrews then set up a great opportunity for Thomas McFerran, Andrews went bombing forward and slipped a fine pass to Louis Cole, Cole pulled the ball across the box where McFerran followed up only to shot wide from close range.
Joe Hardy scored his third for a well deserved hat-trick when fed by Adam Clark he shot accurately into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

Highbury continued to push forward, Lyndon Parmley set Louis Cole free down the right, Cole had a shot well saved but the keeper could not hold the ball and Thomas McFerran followed in and scored a well deserved goal and to make it 7 – 0.
This was a performance which showed Highbury’s ability to play some excellent football with neat effective fluent passing movement, if they could develop a ruthlessness in front of goal they will achieve much in the remainder of the season.
