U15's County Cup
Highworth Town 3
WHYFC 2 (Bard, Edwardes)
(after extra time)
Highworth, away in the cup - thats a long old poke!
On a wet and miserable day the recent pattern with the U15's continued with Highbury scoring first only to concede an equaliser minutes before half-time. Despite the setback Highbury continued with the same level of effort and determination in the second half and confidence was becoming more visible in their play the longer the match went on. Highbury were rewarded 15 minutes from the end when they took the lead - they now had to hold it for the remainder of the match to achieve a hard fought and well deserved victory. Football can be a cruel game though - as both players and spectators hearts sank when Highworth forced an equaliser with 3 minutes to go. Extra time beckoned.
Momentum was now with the home side and they capitalised on this going ahead for the first time in the match in the first period of extra time. Highbury dug deep and pushed forward - forcing good saves from the Highworth keeper, hitting the post and having several penalty claims refused. Unfortunately they could not rescue the match. Despite the loss Highbury should be proud of themselves for the hard work and passion they put into this cup tie - they deserved to get more from the match.
