A glorious sunny saturday morning was upon us as the Highbury Under 10 C team played their first league match this season on their home turf. Expectations were high after last weeks 3-1 win over Bradford on Avon.
The team saw Matthew in goal with Kyle and Zack in defence, Brandon and Ben in midfield, followed by Ronan and Hayden up front. There were no substitutes.
For the first 8 minutes or so, the whole game was played in the Melksham end, hardly a player in the Highbury half. However all that changed when suddenly Melksham got a taste for the ball and broke the Highbury defence and put the first goal in at around 9 minutes. After that, an onslaught from Melksham took Highbury to pieces and by the end of the first half, Highbury were 0-5 down.
A strong team talk from coach Bill at half time and re-arrangement of the squad worked wonders. A very well balanced second half added no more goals, but lifted the players at the end. It was felt that Highbury learnt a lot from the 2 halves and will hopefully be able to put that to good use next week.
